TECHNOLOGY DOES NOT SAVE LIVES. PEOPLE DO. That was the idea at the heart of my talk, Beyond Technology, during the celebration of Erbe’s 175th anniversary and the fifth anniversary of Erbe Spain in Madrid. It was an extraordinary evening… and a deeply personal one. I had the privilege of sharing the story behind Cryo-EBUS: not simply the story of a new procedure, but of a patient who made us question an accepted paradigm, of physicians who believed there had to be a better way, and of what can happen when knowledge is shared without barriers. And none of this story can be told without my friend and colleague, Javier Pérez Pallarés. This journey began together. Because innovation should never begin with the question: “What can we publish?” It should begin with: “What does the patient need?” It was a true honour to share this celebration with Christian Erbe and to experience firsthand the values behind a company that has continued to evolve for 175 years while remaining focused on people, purpose and meaningful progress. My deepest gratitude goes to Erbe Spain. And especially to Julian Bautista Hernández, whose trust, generosity and constant support have meant so much throughout this journey. Julián, you and your team did not simply support a technology… you believed in people, in collaboration and in an idea whose only purpose was to reach patients. Thank you also to Daniel Iniesta, Miguel Ordóñez Guerrero, Rocío Gavilán and every member of the Erbe Spain team. You have always listened, encouraged us and helped turn ideas into real opportunities to improve patient care. That evening reminded me of something I believe more strongly than ever: MEDICINE changes when knowledge is SHARED. And technology becomes truly extraordinary only when it reaches human hands willing to use it, teach it and share it for the benefit of others. Thank you for allowing me to be part of such a remarkable celebration… and, in some small way, of this extraordinary 175-year story. SHARING is GROWING.
