Micro-Mobility for Europe regrets the reported intention of the Brussels-Capital Region to discontinue shared e-scooter services as part of the next tender from 2027 onwards. 🛴 🇧🇪 Over the past years, Brussels has developed one of Europe's most 𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 for shared micro-mobility, 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐳𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬, 𝐠𝐞𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐥𝐨𝐰-𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬. This approach has demonstrated that shared e-scooters can be effectively managed while providing a valuable mobility service for hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors. 📈 Removing shared e-scooters would represent a step backwards for sustainable urban mobility at a time when cities across Europe are seeking to 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝘄-𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Shared e-scooters complement public transport, help solve first- and last-mile challenges, and provide citizens with an affordable and flexible alternative to private car use. 🚎 🍃 MMfE remains committed to working constructively with the Brussels authorities to address any remaining concerns through evidence-based regulation rather than discontinuation. We believe that building on Brussels' successful regulatory framework is a more effective path than removing a mobility option that many people rely on every day. Micro-Mobility for Europe is the European coalition of shared e-scooter and e-bike operators, consisting of Bolt, Dott, Lime and Voi. In 2025, more than 353 million shared e-scooter trips and more than 136 million shared e-bike rides were made in Europe.
