We’re bridging the Uncanny Valley in the #MichiganTech Human-Robot Interaction Lab. Meet Reachy, an open-source humanoid robot designed to be both approachable and functional. With Michael Walker at the helm, every Husky has a hand in the hardware, from robotics engineering undergrad Jose Padilla, who’s seeking ways to make industrial work safer for people like his father, to computer science PhD students like LillyAnn N. By using digital twins and open-source software, the Michigan Tech College of Computing is exploring how robots can serve humanity by safely integrating into hospitals, homes, and workspaces.
