Many people in the United States do not have access to hospitals with advanced stroke care. In those underserved areas, telestroke services that provide virtual neurology expertise are essential for patients to receive timely, lifesaving treatment. Since 2016, the U-M Health Telestroke Service has evaluated more than 11,000 patients for stroke, helping treat hundreds of patients with clot-busting medications and endovascular thrombectomy procedures. Neurologists currently see patients at 11 partner sites as far north as Sault Ste. Marie and as far west as Cadillac.
