In 1876, the nation celebrated the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence with an international exhibition in Philadelphia. The Michigan pavilion included this detailed engraving representing U-M, including our original University of Michigan Medical School building that opened in 1850 on eastern edge of the Diag, and the main buildings for undergraduates and law students. Learn more about our history on July 4 and 5, or any weekend in July and August, by visiting our free exhibit at the Museum on Main Street run by the Washtenaw County Historical Society. It's open from 12-4 p.m. and is air conditioned and accessible to all.
