Jumpin Joe Beyrle, from Muskegon, As promised earlier today, Joe fought for two armed forces. He fought with the 101st Airborne during the D-Day Invasion, was captured by the Germans, and was thought to have died. He escaped the Stalag III-C POW camp and was liberated by the friendy Russian Army. He fought under Russian command for almost a month because they were headed to Berlin where he was sure to meet back up with American Forces. However, Joe was injured by Geman dive bombers and was hospitalized. While in the hospital he received a visit from Russian General Zhukov, who sent him to the US Embassy in Moscow for repatriation.
