Democracy Must Be Earned Every Day Last week in Berlin, I had the privilege of co-hosting a discussion on the resilience of democratic systems at the Swiss Embassy in Berlin, together with colleagues from Die Botschaft der Schweiz in Deutschland and our close partners, Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. In times dominated by polarization, disinformation and geopolitical uncertainty, the question is not whether democracy is under pressure but how we respond to that pressure. Hence: Democracy doesn’t simply happen to us. We have to earn it every day and actively work to uphold its values. Universities have a particular responsibility in this regard. We must not only analyze democratic developments but also create spaces for informed and pluralistic exchange. My sincere thanks to our partners in Berlin, and especially to Ambassador and UZH Alumna Livia Leu, for hosting this dialogue at the Residence of the Swiss Embassy. 🔗 Read more about the event and its key insights here: https://lnkd.in/etuTq_iv #Democracy #Leadership #UZH #Global Affairs Günter M.
