Es gibt ein Emoji für das, was heute im EU-Parlament beschlossen wurde: 🤦‍♂️   Inmitten dieser großpolitischen Lage ausgerechnet das zentrale Leuchtturmprojekt unseres Gegenmodells zu all den Autokraten und Abschottern auszubremsen, ist einfach nur beschämend. Mit ihrer Verweigerungshaltung zum #Mercosur-Abkommen haben die Nein-Sager im Parlament die EU der Selbstverzwergung preisgegeben.   25 Jahre Verhandlungen sind genug! Wir - und übrigens auch unsere südamerikanischen Partner - brauchen jetzt endlich Klarheit, dass wir für einen geordneten und fairen Freihandel einstehen, von dem alle Seiten profitieren. Es gibt genug Aberwitzigkeiten auf der handelspolitischen Weltbühne, wir sollten keine weitere beisteuern.   Wir appellieren deshalb an die EU-Kommission und Ursula von der Leyen, das Abkommen in Kraft zu setzen - auch ohne die Ratifizierung durch das Parlament. Sie darf das! Sie kann das! Und sie hat dafür die Unterstützung von Millionen Beschäftigten in der europäischen Industrie! There’s an emoji for what was decided today in the European Parliament: 🤦‍♂️ In the middle of this geopolitical situation, slowing down the central flagship project of our counter-model to all those autocrats and isolationists is simply shameful. With their refusal to back the #Mercosur agreement, the naysayers in Parliament have handed the EU over to self-diminishment. 25 years of negotiations are enough! We — and, by the way, our South American partners as well — now finally need clarity that we stand for orderly and fair free trade from which all sides benefit. There are enough absurdities on the global trade policy stage; we should not contribute another one. We therefore appeal to the European Commission and Ursula von der Leyen to bring the agreement into force — even without ratification by Parliament. She is allowed to do that! She can do that!
