What can herding 850 sheep and 26 goats teach you about leadership? 😎 Together with my fantastic Commercial, Technical & Portfolio Development Team, I have had the joy to get outside the comfort zone of meeting rooms and power point slides by practicing leadership and collaboration in a completely new way. 🐏 Our team of 5 nationalities and various backgrounds (engineers, commercials, scientists, ...) had to guide 850 sheep and 26 goats over 5km through the Lüneburger Heide. So what did we learn? 👉 Clear leadership. The sheep got utterly confused when more than one person tried to assume leadership and lead the herd. 🤝 Clear roles but no silos. As soon as everyone was clear about her or his task as well as of those of their neighbors, the collaboration worked very well. 🗣️ Communication and a no-blame culture. Only if everyone is empowered to speak up in case a mistake is spotted, this can be corrected asap.
