I am delighted to announce a major funding decision today and an important milestone for CISPA Helmholtz-Zentrum für Informationssicherheit. Our funding bodies, the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) and the Saarland state government, have decided that CISPA will receive a substantial permanent increase in funding of around 45 million euros per year. The additional funds will become available from 2029/30 onwards, subject to their incorporation into the regular funding structures of the Helmholtz Association. I see this decision as an extraordinary recognition of the work that has been done at CISPA over the past several years. At the same time, it sends a strong signal: Germany is making a long-term commitment to excellence and scientific strength in the key future fields of cybersecurity and trustworthy AI. CISPA is ready to continue fulfilling its responsibility toward science and society and to make an even greater contribution to the digital sovereignty of Germany and Europe. The additional funds will open up extensive opportunities for us to attract more outstanding scientists from around the world, explore innovative fields of research, and further strengthen the transfer of scientific findings to business, policymaking, and society.
