The first week of the 'Transport Planning for Road Safety: From Theory to Practice', run by the MIC-HUB City Futures Research Lab at Politecnico di Milano, has just concluded. This year's edition focuses on road safety and urban comfort through the lens of 'Beyond the Average User'. During the first week, students explored the concept of intersectionality and considered how cities are often designed with the ‘average user’ in mind, overlooking the diversity of needs, behaviours and vulnerabilities that influence everyday urban mobility. The aim is to understand how transport planning can contribute to making streets safer, more inclusive and more comfortable — not just for efficiency, but for people of all ages, abilities, genders and mobility needs. The first week closed with contributions from: · Marco Gualandri and Simone Fabbiano, Associate Unit Directors of MIC-HUB’s Infrastructure Design Team, with a talk about Design for Road Safety · Matteo Collotti, Junior Consultant of MIC-HUB’s Mobility Planning Team, with a talk about Planning for Road Safety Tutors: · Delia Valastro, Senior Researcher at MIC-HUB City Futures Research Lab · Sweatha Ramesh, Senior Consultant in the Mobility Planning Team Stay tuned to discover the final outcomes of the workshop and the students’ toolkit for better cities.
