New from the MHEX Research Group: Is it safe to exercise in a chest binder? Trans community guidance has historically advised against exercising while binding, which for many people creates a real barrier to physical activity. Until recently, this advice was not based on direct evidence. Our team at the Mental Health + Exercise Research Group (MHEX), based across the The University of Western Australia and UNSW has conducted a study examining the effects of chest binding on lung function, upper body strength, cardiovascular fitness, and comfort during exercise. A summary of our preliminary findings, presented at AusPATH 2025, is now available on our blog. Full peer-reviewed results are expected for publication later in 2026.
