20th Mentor Interview # 5 — Data-Fu 🐼 Topic: Recommendation Systems 🎥 Let me give you some advice. ✍️ “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” – Gandalf, Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring During the 5th mentor session of the Miuul AI Data Scientist Bootcamp, our focus was on Recommendation Systems. We walked through how recommendation systems operate in practice, using examples like Amazon suggestions, Netflix rankings and Spotify discovery. ✍ On the technical side, Ali Ozdemir gave a detailed explanation covering: - Association Rule Learning (Apriori) - Collaborative Filtering (User-Based and Item-Based) - Content-Based Filtering (TF-IDF & Cosine Similarity) - Matrix Factorization - Hybrid Recommendation Systems After the theory, we moved directly into practice with two case studies. Using Armut.com service data, we built a service recommendation system based on association rules and deployed it via streamlit. We interpreted the outputs both from a user perspective and with LLM-based explanations. 👏 On the MovieLens dataset, we combined user preferences and content similarity to create a hybrid recommender model.
