Through daily engagement with federal employees, a Magellan Federal Triage Counselor supported a member facing a serious personal safety concern. Living in a rural area with limited resources can heighten an individual’s sense of fear and isolation. The counselor remained present and supportive throughout the call, carefully assessing immediate safety needs. The caller was overwhelmed and unable to sleep, eat, or return to work. With no nearby family support, the EAP became a critical lifeline. Working collaboratively, the team developed a comprehensive safety plan, scheduled urgent counseling appointments, arranged a legal consultation to review the restraining order, and connected the caller with local domestic violence advocacy resources for both her and her teenage son.
