"Why Portugal?" Friday Mini-Series, Reason 2 of 4 🤘 When we were deciding where to base our European operations, one of the things that genuinely surprised us was how much the EU's institutional infrastructure actually works - and for sure here in Portugal. I'll be honest: when we first started looking into EU grant programs and funding frameworks, the whole thing felt overwhelming. Complicated, bureaucratic, designed for people who already knew how to navigate it - not for a first-timer trying to figure it out from scratch. But that hasn't been our experience at all. Working with advisors like BDO Portugal's incentives team, we've found the process of understanding what's available, what you qualify for, and how to actually apply for it to be completely navigable. The agencies that exist to support companies like ours - IAPMEI, AICEP, Startup Portugal - are real, accessible, and staffed by people who want to help you succeed. And the broader policy direction of the EU - circular economy, waste valorization, sustainable materials - isn't something we have to work against; it's directly aligned with what we're building. That matters more than people realize when you're making a long-term location decision. We didn't fully appreciate how much of an advantage that would be until we were actually in it, but now we get it.
