One year ago, we asked a simple question: How can mgc build an urban factory that gives startups real-world production environments to learn within? To test it we went to IFA 2024, the largest consumer electronics show in Europe. We did more than walk the halls, we tore products apart. (So sorry, again, Corben P.… at least your cat toilet didn’t need to be mopped up like Samsung’s washing machine 🙃). The goal was not to annoy, it was to understand: how could we help? Here’s what we found: 💡 CEOs were buried in customer service and returns instead of sales, development, and fundraising. 💡 CTOs wanted local production options, but lacked knowledge of where to go. 💡 Investors and intrapreneurs loved robotics innovation, but didn’t know how to assess risks. 💡 Consumers were craving authenticity and community-led design. That made us realize: building mgc can not be about standing up industrial processes alone. It needs to include full production lifecycle management (with one hell of a legal team) to take control of supply chains. So for the past year, we went deep. We: 🐇 Mapped electronics manufacturing demand across 33 national governments from Azerbaijan to Uruguay. 🐇 Partnered with Ivy League universities, ecosystem leaders, and distributors for long-term innovation development. 🐇 Outlined our “magnum opus”: a walkthrough from idea → 100k units/month in your own urban microfactory. 🐇 Spoke to hundreds of founders, investors, and industrialists about their pain points, especially in America where capital is most ready to deploy for operational pursuits. 🐇 Selected for land-trust proposals on 2 historic sites in NYC for production and inspirational facilities. 🐇 Won European grants and submitted applications for others in Japan with partners for economic empowerment research. 🐇 Met inspiring entrepreneurs we want to help once we can spawn our own services-in-kind fund. (Like the amazing Caleb Lucas & Tim Schröder) 🐇 Built a (tentative) team and community of experts we’re excited to share soon. Through this, we reached two conclusions: 1️⃣ Education is the nucleus. Western schools and accelerators are still teaching outdated methods. Nothing else matters if no one knows what to do. 2️⃣ Our values must be clear. There are too many possibilities, and the military industrial complex of late stage capitalism tends to eliminate the most positive trajectories for technology. mgc refuses to build for destruction. We will focus our efforts on climatetech and other community initiatives necessary for a prosperous, peaceful solarpunk future. With our strategy defined, we now have a roadmap for product development. It’s coming back to where it started: IFA 2025. Stay tuned to hear where we'll be when, and meet us in person. Thank you to everyone who challenged, questioned, and supported us this past year. The journey is just beginning. Now, let’s all go make some magic. #HardwareStartups #Electronics #Manufacturing #ScaleUp #IFA2025
