Not every great idea wins a prize. Some deserve something else: recognition. We recently announced the finalists and winners of the Focchi Group and Pellini competitions held this summer. But there’s one project we didn’t want to overlook. No podium. No trophy. Just an honourable mention — and a concept worth highlighting. Katie Fitzgerald shared the thinking behind her project for the Focchi competition: “The Concept of this project was developed through looking at key aspects of renewable energy and integrating them into a multifunctional façade system while maintaining a modern design. Key components within the design was a water collection point to gather rain water and reuse it within the building, this is a key component within renewable energy that is sometimes overlooked and it was an important factor of the system. Other design elements were solar panels which were fitted to the exterior of the system and within the interior of the structure there is a heating and cooling system to adapt as the elements chance due to the sensors fitted to the exterior which are disguised as bolts which maintain the modern design.” A smart system. A clean design. A forward-thinking vision. And that’s exactly the point. Innovation is not the problem. Bold, creative ideas are everywhere. The real challenge? Turning those ideas into reality. Because without the right structure, support, and ecosystem, even the best concepts risk staying on paper. That’s where MEZeroE comes in. By building a digital ecosystem dedicated to zero-energy buildings, MEZeroE helps bridge the gap between innovation and implementation.
