Who is METROM – and what do we actually do? 🤔 If you've been following us for a while, you already know. If you've only recently found us – here's a quick introduction from our CTO Marcus Witt. ⚙️ We build parallel kinematic machine tools – for milling and deposition – based in Hartmannsdorf near Chemnitz. The heart of every METROM machine is an icosahedron: a frame made of 20 triangles, shaped like a sphere. Think of a football – but with triangular panels instead of pentagonal ones. And triangles, as it turns out, are stiffer. Much stiffer. 💡 Into that frame, five struts reach the main spindle – the pentapod. Five arms instead of one, like a robot. Five times the stiffness. The result: the precision and rigidity of a machine tool combined with the freedom of movement of a robot. In a machine we've been deploying on-site, mobile, since 2008. 🌍 From turbine repair in North America to maintenance in Australia – our machines go where the problem is. And when the customer can't find a solution, we help them find one. Beyond mobile machining, we integrate additional technologies together with partners like Fraunhofer IWU, AIT Austrian Institute of Technology / LKR Leichtmetallkompetenzzentrum Ranshofen, OSCAR-PLT GmbH, Technologie Campus und Gründerzentrum Parsberg-Lupburg (Technische Hochschule Deggendorf): laser metal deposition, 3D printing, force-controlled rolling, submerged arc welding – the complete process chain, from additive manufacturing to final surface finish. All in one system. 🔧 We recently put this into words as part of our application for the Großer Preis des Mittelstandes | Netzwerk der Besten – one of Germany's most prestigious awards for medium-sized businesses. The video above is what came out of it: Marcus explaining, in plain language, what we do and why we do it. We're proud of what we've built – and even prouder of where we're heading. 🙌 #METROM # #ParallelKinematics #MobileManufacturing #HybridManufacturing #Pentapod
