Confidence grows over time. It’s built through preparedness, access to opportunity, support systems and social connections. Yet our new multinational study uncovered a striking confidence gap: while most adults describe themselves as resilient, their confidence drops by 72% when faced with real-life setbacks. The findings also point to a path forward. Early experiences can shape confidence for years to come. Sports, education and mentorship help build resilience, and more than half of adults who participated in sports as children say those experiences helped them build confidence (56%) and persistence (52%). As the world comes together this summer around soccer, we’re reminded that the game’s greatest impact often extends far beyond the field. Through our support of the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, we’re proud to help turn the power of sport into lasting opportunity - expanding access to sport and education so more young people can build the confidence to take on whatever comes next.
