👉 Design, testing, budgeting, communication and reporting were all put to the test at the The University of Waikato annual First Year Engineering Design Challenge. Working in teams, students design, build, and race motorised remote-control boats on Oranga Lake, bringing their ideas to life in a high-energy, hands-on environment.  With the challenge contributing to end-of-semester assessments, the stakes are high, and the learning is real. For chemical and process engineering student Lamar Abuhazaa, the standout experience wasn’t just the thrill of building and racing; it was the power of teamwork. “Learning to work with a new group of people, and collaborating with students from different engineering disciplines, was my favourite part of the Design Challenge,” Lamar says.
