At the Merck Future Insight Prize in Darmstadt, the conversation went beyond the science of prevention and into the harder question underneath it. What does it take to make innovation a reality for patients? Technology, data and biomarkers transform what is possible in preventive medicine, but transformation only reaches patients when three other questions are answered: who pays, who benefits, and what has to change in the way care is delivered. These are questions that define our work. Our Integrated Health and Medicines team led by Emre Ozcan, PhD works at the intersection, connecting medicines with digital solutions across the full care continuum. From companion apps that support patients between clinical visits, to hybrid medicines that combine pharmacological treatment with personalized digital support, to connected devices that generate the real-world evidence systems need to make better decisions.
