There are moments that remind you exactly why you wrote a book. Last week was one of them. The Daily Northwestern attended my book talk at the Evanston Art Center and spoke with attendees who came to listen, ask questions, and engage in conversation about how decisions are made in their city. What stayed with me wasn’t just that the event sold out…it was the depth of the questions people asked about local government and how it actually works. That’s why I wrote Unsafe Black Voice. Not to tell people what to think…but to encourage people to ask questions, look at the facts, and stay engaged where they live. Because too often, residents only learn how decisions are made after the fact. And by then, it’s harder to influence outcomes. Whether you agree with me or not isn’t the point. Understanding the process is. Thank you to The Daily Northwestern and reporter Isadora Uris Fernandes for the coverage. 📖 Article in the first comment. #UnsafeBlackVoice #Evanston #CivicEngagement #LocalGovernment #CommunityVoice
