International Women in Engineering Day 2026 Continuing our series marking International Women in Engineering Day, today we profile Sena Deniz Gulsoy, a journey shaped by a deliberate move from architectural design into the technical complexity of how buildings are actually built. Sena began her career as an architect in Türkiye, but it was the intersection of design and buildability that defined her path. Drawn to the technical complexity of building envelopes, she made a deliberate move into façade engineering, joining a specialist contractor delivering medium and large-scale projects across Türkiye and Europe. Working at that level gave her a ground-floor understanding of how technical decisions translate into physical reality, how façades are manufactured, sequenced and installed, not just designed. That hands-on foundation shaped everything that followed. Recognising the growing importance of digital collaboration in construction, Sena developed her BIM capability and experience in integrating multidisciplinary workflows from the earliest stages of design. She subsequently completed a Master's degree in Façade Engineering with Merit at the University of the West of England, deepening her knowledge of UK construction standards, regulations and contemporary engineering practice. Today, as Project Engineer in Meinhardt UK's Façade Engineering team and a newly appointed affiliate member of the Society of Façade Engineers, Sena supports medium and large-scale projects across the UK and UAE from conceptual design through to installation. Her experience on both sides of the industry, contractor and consultancy, gives her a precise understanding of what successful façade delivery requires: strong coordination, clear grasp of client and architect requirements, and correct application of standards. Her architectural background continues to inform her work, particularly in developing well-resolved details for complex thermal interfaces in remediation and new build projects.
