About two years ago, Avneet Singh Riat left a long corporate career and started building something. Six months in, he reached out to me. What would come to be known as SMA Consulting (UK) didn't even have a name yet. It was just a working relationship between him and Dr. Stephen Anthony, and a germ of an idea. I'll be honest. I knew people who were management consultants and honestly had no idea what they actually did. I said yes not because I had a clear vision of where it was going, but because Avneet seemed to see something in me that I genuinely couldn't see in myself at the time. He took a gamble. By summer 2025 we had enough direction to start building a pipeline. Since then we've secured positions on 9 major frameworks and held a win rate of around 40% from every proposal we've submitted. For a practice not yet two years old, I still find that quietly astonishing. What we offer covers leadership and human behaviour, operational excellence, organisational culture, and technology. But the way we do it matters more than the list. Senior, principal-led work. No junior teams billing hours while they figure it out. The shared values between the three of us emerged through the work itself, and that's probably why it functions the way it does.
