𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗡 𝟭𝟮𝟰𝟲𝟵 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘀? That was the focus of our session at #LabCon2026. Gary Doran presented “𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗡 𝟭𝟮𝟰𝟲𝟵:𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱: 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘀,” bringing a unique perspective as a member of the CEN working group that drafted the new standard. While many of the biggest changes sit with manufacturers, there are important implications for laboratories, particularly around installation, testing, performance verification, and ongoing compliance. Our aim was to simplify the standard and clearly communicate what it means in practice for lab users, owners, and managers in Ireland. The level of engagement on the day showed there is a real need for clear, practical guidance in this area.
