“A consistent theme from IPI’s Media Innovation Festival was the need to move away from a binary choice between grants and commercial capital.” This is an important shift in how the media funding landscape thinks about media sustainability. At MDIF, it is an approach that we've championed for many years through what has come to be known as the “Third Way” — recognizing that independent media often need forms of patient, mission-aligned capital that sits between traditional philanthropy and market-driven investments. That is why Clare Cook’s thoughtful reflection on the conversations emerging from the International Press Institute (IPI)'s Media Innovation Festival is encouraging. It suggests that ideas once considered alternative are increasingly becoming part of the mainstream discussion about how to build stronger, more resilient independent media. Thanks to Clare and IMS (International Media Support) for contributing to this important conversation and for the mention in this article 👇 https://lnkd.in/ghsBA4NE
