Can OTODRIVE* and OTOARM help preserve residual hearing? Prof. Dr. Stefan Weder’s research with OTODRIVE and OTOARM spans both pre-clinical and clinical phases, comparing manual vs. robotic electrode insertion. “We were really interested in understanding how implant surgery changes when using a robotic-assisted device, and our research project had two arms—a pre-clinical and a clinical one,” shares Dr. Weder. During the pre-clinical trial, Dr. Weder and his team used a model with multiple sensors and asked three surgeons to perform 10 insertions, either manually or with the OTODRIVE system. “What we found with our pre-clinical model is that, using the OTODRIVE system, we can really see a decline of pressure and force variation going into the cochlea.” Now, in the clinical phase, Dr. Weder and his team have implanted more than 40 patients so far. While research is still ongoing, Prof. Dr. Weder has observed how OTODRIVE has the potential to help surgeons reduce insertion trauma. 👇 Watch the video to hear his perspective. * CASCINATION AG is the legal manufacturer of OTODRIVE.
