The Department of Kinesiology is currently recruiting three McCall MacBain Chairs in Healthy Living. A fourth Chair in Evidence-Informed Health Policy will be recruited through the McMaster Faculty of Health Sciences. The Department of Kinesiology (https://lnkd.in/g3fjNG8s), in the Faculty of Science, is committed to the interdisciplinary study of human movement, taking a cell-to-society approach to understanding how physical activity shapes health across the lifespan. Its research spans three connected themes: human integrative physiology, mechanics and control of movement, and neuroscience and behaviour. The Department brings together leading Canadian and international scholars who study human movement through both laboratory and field-based approaches, and its undergraduate program has been ranked among the top three in Canada and the top 25 worldwide. The Department anchors the McCall MacBain Kinesiology and Healthspan Institute, a joint initiative with the Faculty of Health Sciences established through a transformational $50-million endowed gift, the largest ever made to a kinesiology department in Canadian university history. It is also home to the Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE), a living-lab facility for exercise research with older adults and people living with chronic disease or disability, and it works closely with the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging (MIRA). Together, these programs create an exceptional setting for an emerging molecular physiologist whose work connects mechanism to healthspan. These four endowed Chairs anchor the new McCall MacBain Kinesiology and Healthspan Institute, a joint initiative with the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The Institute was established through a transformational $50-million gift from the McCall MacBain Foundation, the largest gift ever made to a kinesiology department in Canadian university history, McMaster University is consistently ranked among the most research-intensive universities in Canada, and the Kinesiology department is ranked among the best in the world. Chairholders will have access to the Physical Activity Centre of Excellence (PACE https://pace.mcmaster.ca/), dedicated research funding through the Institute, and an interdisciplinary community that spans exercise science, population health, and health research methods.
