What does exceptional political leadership look like? At the McKinnon Prize, the answer isn’t determined by politics or ideology. It’s determined through a rigorous, independent process that brings together some of Australia’s most respected leaders from across business, academia, media, civil society and public life. Despite holding diverse perspectives and differing political views, the members of our independent Selection Panel come together around a shared belief: that great political leadership is defined by a courageous focus on public impact, vision, collaboration and integrity. In a time when public debate often focuses on division, the McKinnon Prize demonstrates that consensus is still possible. That Australians can agree on the qualities that strengthen our democracy and deliver meaningful outcomes for communities. We are deeply grateful to the members of our independent Selection Panel and to our partner, the University of Melbourne for helping ensure the Prize remains Australia’s only independent, non-partisan recognition of exceptional political leadership.
