For #BlackHistoryMonth, we want to highlight a historic figure in the world of engineering – Howard P. Grant. Grant had many firsts, including being the first black graduate of the University of California, Berkeley College of Engineering, the first black engineer for the City and County of San Francisco, and the first recorded black member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He also founded the Northern California Council of Black Professional Engineers, which promotes professional development, networking, education, and outreach in science and engineering to black youth. Howard Grant is a respected engineer and still provides inspiration to many! Photo by Sergey Zolkin on Unsplash
