Roblox didn't force creators to use its new avatar system. It paid them 42% more to switch. In June, Roblox raised its Developer Exchange payout by 42% for spend from verified U.S. adult players. There's one catch. The game has to run exclusively on the modern R15 avatar. Let a player drop into an older R6 body at any point, and the game is disqualified from the higher rate entirely. Why pay up for adults specifically? Because that's the audience Roblox wants next. The U.S. 18-34 cohort is growing 50%+ year over year and monetizes 50%+ higher than under-18 players. The 42% bump is Roblox pulling creators toward that audience ahead of its arrival. Inside Roblox's developer community, the fight has been about aesthetics: the retired classic 2D face and the creators who liked the old look pushing back. Meanwhile Roblox rewired the economics so the choice makes itself. Keep R6 and your nostalgia, or move to R15 and earn meaningfully more on the highest-value spend on the platform. Watch what a platform pays for, not just what it announces. The payout terms tell you where Roblox is actually going.
