MitoScanner: a newly discovered step in mitochondrial division! 🛰️✂️ A new study led by Ana García Sáez at the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics and the University of Cologne shows how the protein DRP1 finds the right place to divide mitochondria 🔬 Cristiana Zollo and colleagues discovered that DRP1 continuously explores the mitochondrial membrane, scanning for the precise location where fission should occur, a behaviour they named the MitoScanner.
