What if the waste heat from car engines, data centres or industrial processes could be turned into electricity? Thermoelectric materials can do exactly that, but many degrade quickly as metal ions move through the material, causing them to lose performance over time. Dominique Alexander Mattlat, Siyuan (Spark) Zhang and Christina Scheu contributed to a study led by researchers from the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research that shows how zinc-oxide barriers can suppress this ion migration, making thermoelectric materials significantly more stable while maintaining their high energy conversion efficiency. š Follow the link in the first comment to get more info! #thermoelectrics #materials #materialsscience #microscopy
