I have a big announcement: Aarush Verma and I are running for UCL Trauma & Orthopaedics Leadership in the UCL Surgical Society! Context: Originally, we applied for the UCL T&O Chair as separate candidates. However, following the UCL Surgical Society's Annual General Meeting, and some encouragement, we believe we are more suited to apply for joint leadership. Aarush has valuable experience within the UCL T&O committee, leading the Surgical Society Clinical Skills Course, while I am able to bring external connections and outreach beyond the society itself. We are extremely excited for this partnership, because our diverse, yet complimentary experiences will shape UCL as the centre of Orthopaedics in London! We have many ideas, however, here are the 3 we are most excited about: 1. Establishing the Annual UCLTOS Conference The flagship event of our society, open to UCL, non-UCL students, and Orthopaedic Doctors/Surgeons for talks, workshops, and research presentations. 2. Improving Hands-on Orthopaedic Skills Casting, splinting, surgical skills: we will get you exposed to orthopaedics early! We will collaborate with unexplored orthopaedic subspecialties, and utilise our connections with other universities such as Cambridge, KCL, and St. George's etc. 3. Broaden Mentorship, Research and Clinical Examination Support We will introduce the T&O buddy system, to support connecting with trainees and senior students for orthopaedic projects. We will organise a musculoskeletal and limb examination teaching series for pre-clinical, clinical students, and those studying iBSc or BSc Sports & Exercise Medical Sciences. That's right, we will make orthopaedics not just for medical students! Through our leadership, we will establish UCL as the centre of Orthopaedics in London. So UCL, make sure you vote Aarush Verma as your UCL T&O Chair! Read our full manifesto below, and spread the word! Edit: This is our updated manifesto to ensure it fully meets UCL SU Guidelines: shorturl.at/i0DwX #Medicine #UCL #UCLMedicine #UCLSurgicalSociety #Orthopaedics #TraumaAndOrthopaedics #Ortho #StudentElection
