Scaling is simple. Just become the person everyone refers. Here’s how: 1. Build trust, not just an audience Most founders chase followers. What they actually need is believers. Followers are a vanity metric. Trust is a business asset. According to the Edelman Trust Barometer, people are significantly more likely to trust an individual expert than a corporation. And over 60% of Gen Z say they trust individual creators more than brands when making decisions. People trust people before they trust companies. Always have. Always will. Your energy, your values, your point of view are what truly build real connection. And connection is what converts. A follower might scroll past your offer. Someone who trusts you will send their friends. 2. Show Your Thinking, Not Just Your Results Anyone can post a win. Very few people show the reasoning behind it. Your audience doesn't just want to see where you ended up. They want to see how you think. The frameworks you use. The decisions you agonize over. The mistakes that taught you the most. When you share your thinking, people don't just follow you. They start to think like you. And that's when your content stops being content and starts being a relationship. 3. The More Specific Your Point of View, the Faster Trust Builds Vague expertise attracts vague interest. Specific expertise attracts the right people fast. The highest form of trust today comes from your values, your point of view, and what you actually have to say. Not a polished brand statement or mission paragraph. Your actual take on things. Even when it's contrarian. The narrower your point of view, the more powerfully it resonates with the people it's meant for. Someone who's not a fit should feel repelled. 4. Pick One Niche, One Message, and Say It Better Than Anyone Else Most founders spread themselves thin trying to appeal to everyone. One niche. One message. One platform to start. Go deep before you go wide. When you post to Instagram, roughly 5% of your audience sees it. On LinkedIn, closer to 3%. But when you own a specific conversation in a specific space, the right people find you without you having to chase them. Do that consistently and referrals stop being luck. And your content becomes your sales team. — Enjoy this? ♻️ Repost it to your network and follow Matt Gray for more. Want the framework to build a personal brand that generates referrals on autopilot?
