Infectious disease outbreak preparedness, particularly for high consequence pathogens such as #Ebola, requires sustained investment and commitment. In the US, we have progressed significantly since the outbreak of 2014-15 with improvements in the Laboratory Response Network, the development of the Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Centers (RESPTCs), as well as the resource of the National Emerging Special Pathogen Training and Education Center (NETEC). We have the benefit of specialized resources and a robust healthcare infrastructure yet the challenge of preparedness for infrequent high impact outbreaks is a challenge and must be weighed against day-to-day institutional needs. This article from the Journal of Clinical Microbiology lays out a compelling case for funding and coordination to more effectively support an expanded network of diagnostics and care during outbreaks. https://lnkd.in/gMfvU85G .
