Disputes, Malaysia | Litigator & Founder at Thomas Philip | Helping Businesses & Individuals Resolve Complex Civil & Commercial Disputes

Dear young litigator, There was a matter recently that I took the main point and asked my more junior collegue Raqib B. Osman to argue a point which I thought was a really minor point. Turns out Judge did not buy my main point and agreed with Raqib's minor point and we won. So advocacy is like a box of chocolates you never know what you going to get. That is what makes it exciting, challenging, stressful, fun, rewarding and whole host of emotions. Judges these days are so much more accomodating to two advocates spliting different points for a party. It was not like that 30 years ago, they would get annoyed at points being split between two lawyers. So take the opportunity, muster enough courage to ask your boss to take a minor point in your next case but make sure you prepare well like Raqib did. Maybe even practice in front of your boss. Advocacy is not just for senior lawyers. The court is open for young lawyers to watch observe and improve and do. Good luck.
