Pillai explains how the Portuguese persecuted the Nasranis of Kerala, who followed the ancient East Syriac form of Christianity. They were once respected as a high caste community because of their holy way of life. Sadly, they were forced to give up their pure and traditional faith, known as Mar Thoma Margam (the way of St. Thomas, which follows the true teachings of our Lord Jesus), and adopt Western practices brought by the colonizers.
