Same-sex marriages are no longer invisible in Poland. But recognition is not the same as equality. Recent judgments of the CJEU and the Polish Supreme Administrative Court have fundamentally changed the legal landscape. Foreign same-sex marriages can now be transcribed into Polish civil registry records. Yet the real battle is only beginning. Taxes. Inheritance. Social security. Hospitals. Family rights. Sector by sector, right by right. In my latest interview I explain why the recognition of a marriage certificate does not automatically mean the recognition of all rights attached to marriage. The question is no longer whether these marriages exist in the eyes of the law. The question is what legal consequences Poland must finally attach to them.
