🎓 Most Master's students write about technology. Our students test it with research-grade equipment. This week, Kevin, a Master's student in our Information Technology programme, presented his thesis on next-generation industrial communication technologies. His research focused on the integration of gPTP into PROFINET IRT hardware based on IEC/IEEE 60802, addressing a key challenge in the evolution of industrial networking. To validate his results, Kevin used highly specialized measurement equipment at Fraunhofer IOSB-INA—technology that is rarely accessible to students. He presented his work to the two examiners, Prof. Jürgen Jasperneite and Prof. Henning Trsek, demonstrating both the technical depth and practical relevance of his research.
