Jessica Holmes was 25 years old, active, and pursuing her master's degree when persistent strep throat symptoms led to an unexpected diagnosis of Hodgkin lymphoma. By listening to her body, she took a critical step that ultimately saved her life. At Mass General Brigham Cancer Institute, Jessica's care team quickly confirmed her diagnosis and created a personalized treatment plan. Doctors across departments coordinated to ensure Jessica was able to preserve her fertility before starting chemotherapy. Jessica underwent 12 rounds of chemotherapy and had extensive follow-up care, supported closely by her loved ones and a compassionate, multidisciplinary care team at Mass General Brigham. Nurses, clinicians and specialists played a critical role in supporting her both medically and emotionally, leaving a lasting impact on Jessica—and vice versa. Her resilience, positivity and humor uplifted staff throughout her treatment, even during difficult moments like anxiety during infusions. Jessica formed deep relationships with her care team, especially her oncologist, Ephraim Hochberg, MD. Last Halloween, she surprised Dr. Hochberg by dressing up as him. Today, Jessica is cancer-free and doing the things she loves. She's finishing her degree, staying active and going parasailing with friends.
