SUBMAR BV - Our Passion For Underwater Works
In Memoriam – Carlo Vandervorst A few days ago, I learned of the sudden passing of Carlo Vandervorst, an exceptional person and outstanding professional. To fully honor Carlo, one would need almost a whole book. But above all, what defined him was his genuine kindness. Carlo was simply a good man. I first met him nearly thirty years ago as a young, enthusiastic diver – my very first employee, professional diver. His personality immediately won me over, and a second interview was unnecessary; he was ready to start right away. We shared hundreds of dives together. Carlo learned incredibly quickly, was always eager to improve, and worked tirelessly on site – always with a smile. Never late, often the first to arrive, and always staying until the job was completely done. His simple, honest sense of humor brought joy to everyone without ever hurting anyone. Carlo truly flourished when he could share his knowledge with new generations of divers. With patience and clear explanations – sometimes simply in the sand or with chalk on the quay – he became a mentor to many. Many will honor him forever for that alone. He had a remarkable ability to bring people together. He guided, encouraged, corrected, and celebrated in ways that united the team. With Carlo, what you saw was what you got: straightforward, honest, and sincere, even with the most challenging personalities. Over the years, he developed into one of the most talented salvage divers in the world. International companies frequently sought his expertise, and his schedule was always full – he could choose from countless opportunities, so highly regarded was he. Carlo, we will miss you tremendously. Such a good man, such a top professional – your sudden departure leaves a huge void. I witnessed your marriage and your two wonderful children, who will undoubtedly carry forward your values and talents. That offers many some comfort, but your presence will always be deeply missed. Rest now; you have given more than your share to this world. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
