Interdisciplinarity looks good on slides. Real impact starts when it holds up in daily clinical reality. At the 65th Annual Meeting of the Swiss Association for Maxillofacial Surgery in Zurich, we presented our approach from Bern. Since 2014, a collaboration has evolved into a structured, interdisciplinary network. Today, together with the Head and Neck Tumor Board at Inselspital Bern — together with the Department of Otorhinolaryngology (Prof. Dr. Roland Giger) and the Department of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery (Prof. Dr. Dr. Benoît Schaller) — we treat more than 100 tumor and trauma patients per year. What keeps this system moving is not only experience, but constructive pressure from within the team. Especially the younger colleagues continuously challenge routines, introduce new technologies, and make sure innovation is not discussed — but applied. Because patients do not benefit from tradition alone, but from tradition combined with critical thinking and technological progress.
