Changing Higher Education for good by facilitating its disruption
“If we focus just on AI and forget the students we’ve made a big mistake “ Professor Kris Ryan DVC Academic at The University of Queensland joins the HEDx student experience podcast demonstrating student partnership in action. “If we teach and assess in the same way we did before AI was so prevalent we are failing to serve students” Kris shares his views in an episode with HEDx student colleagues in Madison Piper and Ben Roden-Cohen They demonstrate why "uncertainty eats IQ for breakfast for students" and that uncertainty arises from: ❓ their wellbeing due to cost of living and other pressures, ❓ how AI is impacting the value of learning, and ❓ the way complex geopolitics is causing them angst The conversation explores how these uncertainties impact all students and that one of the primary challenges for universities is responding to them It demonstrates how student agency through being partners is key to progress for all. It was great to meet Maddie and Ben again last week with Suzanne Le Mire and continue the dialogue that began last November. That led to the launch of our student experience podcast under the fine leadership of Kelly Matthews with outstanding support from Jasmine Johnston Jennifer Lowe Dr Sharon Saunders Belinda Brear Megan Pozzi and Student Voice Australasia and the much valued sponsorship of Online Education Services (OES) We were delighted to keep and deepen the student partnership with the excellent engagement of these and many other students at the event last month at University of Technology Sydney with Kylie Readman and Kerstin Schofer It is now impossible to imagine a HEDx activity or any of the much needed change in the sector without the student voice in partnership in improving the student experience. Listen to this great latest episode on this matter and watch this space.
