π Excited to share our latest publication π :Β "Defining the threshold duration of candidemia associated with poor outcomes: Redefining persistent candidemia" published in Journal of Infection β π 1οΈβ£ In a cohort of 493 patients π₯ with candidemia, we found that persistence of positive blood cultures forΒ β₯2 daysΒ was already independently associated with increased 30-day mortality β οΈ , suggesting that the traditional definition of persistent candidemia (β₯5 days) may be too late to identify patients at highest risk. 2οΈβ£ We also identified clinical factors associated with persistence, providing new insights into the early recognition of patients who may benefit from prompt intervention. These findings support a redefinition of persistent candidemia and highlight the importance of early follow-up blood cultures in clinical practice. Many thanks π to all the investigators from the Infectious Diseases Department at Hospital ClΓnic de Barcelona for their invaluable contribution. This study reflects the power of teamwork and multidisciplinary collaboration in advancing clinical research. π₯ π¨ββοΈ π©ββοΈ #Candidemia #InfectiousDiseases #AntimicrobialStewardship #ClinicalResearch #Mycology #BloodstreamInfections #PhD
