Yesterday, I had the privilege of officiating the handover of the ESG Risk Radar Sector Analysis Report to the Bankers Association of Zambia (BAZ), alongside key stakeholders from Zambia’s financial sector. As risks become increasingly interconnected, factors such as climate change, social dynamics, evolving regulations and governance standards are playing a greater role in shaping financial stability, portfolio performance, and business resilience. The sector analysis provides insights into Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risks across ten key sectors of the Zambian economy, highlighting emerging challenges and opportunities that may affect financial institutions and their clients. It is intended to support more informed risk management and decision-making within the sector. Strengthening resilience and advancing sustainable finance will require continued collaboration among regulators, financial institutions, industry experts and development partners. I am encouraged by the strong commitment shown by stakeholders and their willingness to work together to deepen ESG integration in Zambia’s financial sector. My sincere appreciation goes to the Bankers Association of Zambia, participating financial institutions and all experts who contributed to this important analysis. I look forward to seeing how this work supports sustainable finance and strengthens long-term economic resilience in Zambia.
