With a delegation of 30 companies, research institutes and government representatives we visited the German ecosystem for cleantech. Iโ€™m impressed by all the examples of the raw material and energy transition in practice. We visited scaleups and pilots and new commercial scale plants. โ—ย UPM is preparing for commercial production in Leuna. A revolution in the field of biobased materials. Thank you Gerd Unkelbach ,Michael Duetsch of UPM and Martin Naundorf of InfraLeuna. โ— The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is constructing the worlds largest e-fuel research facility in Leuna for electricity-based sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF). Thank you Gert Saerens from Griesemann Gruppe. โ— Achim Raschka introduced us to the insightful studies and data of the nova-Institut GmbH on bio-based and CO2-based economy. โ— At Evonik chemstars invited us for their ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐˜ ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ, including a venture talk with Avantium CEO Tom van Aken. Congrats Dr. Katrin Markus and Christian Schรผtz! โ— Covestro introduced us to hightech polymers for applications in automotive and their biobased upscaling of bioanilin. Thank you Christoph Gรผrtler. โ— At Fraunhofer Umsicht and thyssenkrupp Uhde we were introduced by Markus Oles to thyssenkrupp Carbon2Chemยฎ to convert waste gases into methanol, an important building block for a wide variety of value chains. In Berlin at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Germany Dr. Beate Baron (Ministerium Fur Wirtshaft und Energie), Berit Erlach (Acatech), Karlo Van Dam (Ministerie van Klimaat en Groene Groei) and Matthias Belitz (German Chemical Industry Association VCI) exchanged views on sustainability policies and further alignment of these policies on the EU and national level. We will follow-up by further connecting national programmes in both countries and to further align policies on EU level.
