Featured in this weeks Another FKA Friday is a start up worthy of an extra mention. I’ve had the privilege of knowing TheiaNova Limited since it was spun out of the University of Auckland, and pleased to now be supporting the company to hit its next milestone and capital raise. Over that time I’ve watched the team combine world-class science with disciplined execution, and I’ve developed enormous respect for the CEO, Carissa Fonseca, PhD TheiaNova Limited is tackling a significant unmet need: developing what has the potential to be a first-in-class therapeutic for a condition that causes debilitating visual distress for a significant patient population across the globe. This should come as no surprise given New Zealand has an outstanding history of producing world leading innovation, yet too often we underestimate what is being built in our own backyard. TheiaNova Limited is exactly the sort of company that demonstrates Auckland as a centre for deep tech and life sciences. It’s the kind of venture that reflects Mayor Wayne Brown’s vision of Auckland’s top 100 companies of the future. For investors looking beyond incremental opportunities to back science with the potential for meaningful global impact, I’d welcome a conversation. Research, Science and Innovation is alive and well in Auckland. Let’s ensure HealthTech start ups like TheiaNova Limited have the support they need to become global success stories. #healthtech #science #startups #innovation #investment #100daysofstartups #AucklandStartupWeek #FKA #angelinvesting #femalefounder
