World Sickle Cell Day is a moment to recognize people living with sickle cell disease, and the families, caregivers, and clinical teams who support them. Today’s SCD research is advancing, from complex biologics to gene therapies. The challenge is making those options reachable for patients whose lives don’t easily fit traditional trial designs. For many, participation is shaped by distance, mobility, visit schedules, and the support available at home. Those realities can decide whether a study is possible and whether a patient can stay on it.
