Anne Frank. A girl who lived only 15 years, yet through her diary reached, touched, and awakened millions of people around the world. Born in 1929 in Frankfurt am Main—my hometown (Martin Leissl)—she would have turned 97 today, June 12. She was murdered in Bergen-Belsen by the inhumane fascist and Nazi terror regime of Germany. Along with her, more than six million people were murdered during the Nazi reign of terror—in concentration camps, on death marches, and in pogroms. Six million Jews, Sinti and Roma, political prisoners, prisoners of war, religious minorities and Christians, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+ people, and those who resisted. And today, there is a political party in Germany that glorifies that regime. Its supporters and politicians openly embrace the ideology, hatred, and narratives of the Nazis. Original post from the Anne Frank Educational Center. Thank you for keeping the memory alive.
